Literature, Metropolis, And Modernity

Overseas Chinese scholars had been engaged in the research of literature and culture of shanghai, while studying the connection of literature, culture and modernity, they show us an imagination of modern shanghai. In this thesis, we attempted to study the process of the finding of Shanghai modernity. We tried to find out how they image modern shanghai, what's the characteristics of their theory and what is the influence of their theory. Firstly, through studying their criticism about the work's content, narration and writer of shanghai literature, we found that the overseas Chinese scholars found out Shanghai's literature had reflected the modernity of shanghai. Secondly, through studying their criticism about the urban space, city spirit and Flaneur of shanghai, we found that the overseas Chinese scholars found out the modern city of Shanghai had reflected the modernity of shanghai. Thirdly, through reflecting their imagination of Shanghai, we attempted to find out why they choose Shanghai to reflecting modernity and what's the influence of their criticism. Finally, we attempted to analyse the uniqueness and significance of their imagination of shanghai. It's shown that thinking its criticism of the overseas Chinese scholars about Shanghai, which in itself is of theoretical value, also with the methodology learn.
