In the theory of metamemory, Judgment of Confidence (JOC),which shows people's retrospective estimate or confidence on their achievement, is close to the pick-up phase. It is an important embodiment of high ability in independent study to be good at estimating one's own achievement properly. Therefore, it can provide basis to the training of middle-school students'retrospective monitoring ability to explore the trend of this kind of ability and the factors that can affect it. And it also can be propitious to middle-school students'proper estimate on their achievement and handling their study efficiently.By two experiments, this thesis tested the trend of middle-school students'retrospective monitory and the factors that can affect it. Experiment 1 discussed the impact of material character on middle-school students'JOC. Ulteriorly, Experiment 2 discussed the trends of middle-school students'retrospective monitory and the impact of material character, motivation level and grade on it. The results shows thatFirst, as a whole, middle-school students'retrospective monitory shows the trend that is a little exaggerated than the fact, and the veracity advances as the grade hoists. Students in Grade 5 have more exact overall JOC than those who are in Grade 1.Second, material character has notable impact on both overall JOC and part JOC of middle-school students. Under the photo-name condition, overall JOC and part JOC about the right-recalled items are more conservative than those which are under the word-word condition. However, part JOC of middle-school students about the wrong-recalled items is not evidently affected by material character.Third, under the photo-name and low-motivated condition, Grade 3 are more confident about the right-recalled items than Grade 1. Grades with low motivation are evidently different from each other on the part JOC about the wrong-recalled items of the photo-name material. Also under the photo-name and low-motivated condition, Grade 5 are less confident about the wrong-recalled items than both Grade1 and 3.The last but not the least important, to Grade 3 and 5, students with high motivation have less exact JOC about the photo-name material than those who are low-motivated. Under the photo-name condition, Grade 3 with high motivation have more backward-looking part JOC about the right-recalled items than those who are low-motivated, and Grade 5 with high motivation have more exaggerated part JOC about the wrong-recalled items than those who are low-motivated.
