The judgment of confidence is an important form of metacognitive monitoring, whichrefers to making a yes-no judgment of confidence for the answer by recalling or recognition.Consensus refers to the proportion of individuals which choose the same answer in the sameitem. The bigger the population proportion they select, the more consensus of item it exists. The subjective self-consistency model of confidence hypothesize that the main clue ofjudgment of confidence is self-consistency, including cross person consensus and inter personconsensus. But this model has some deficiencies. This study will verify and supply theself-consistency model in applicant situation and try to find a more complete explanation ofmechanism of confidence judgment theory.A paradigm called judgment of confidence is used in this study, and three experimentstest the cross-person response consensus and within-person response consensus ofself-consistency model. A simple confidence paradigm is used in experiment1to test thejudgment of confidence in different item of reaction type, and prove the so-calledcross-person response consensus. But Koriat called it the consensuality principle.Experimental2tests that there is subjective consensus which Koriat pointed out, and theconsensus can affect the judgment of confidence. Experimental3tests that there also is asubjective consensus within persons, and this consensus can affect judgment of confidence. The following conclusions are drawn from the above three experiments:1. The item consensus has an influence on individual confidence. And with theincreasing of item consensus, the confidence also increased.2. There is subjective consensus of cross persons who don’t know the choices of others.Subjective consensus and accessibility affected confidence by affecting objectives consensus.3. Accessibility can affect individual’s self-confidence alone.4. There is also subjective consensus within persons, which can directly affect theself-confidence or affect self-confidence by intermediary functions of objective consensus.5. By proving the existence of subjective consensus, it can directly affect theself-confidence or affect the self-confidence by objective consensus. This further supplied the self-consistency model of judgment of confidence and comprehensively explained the internalprocessing mechanism of confidence judgment.
