The concept of human nature of Xun Zi indicates profound intension and different gradation. We should make concrete analysis of concrete problems and can not lump different matters together. In the system of Xun Zi's theory, there are two levels of the concept of human nature. One is natural instincts, the other is habitual nature. Natural instincts is inborn characteristics which human posses without study as they were born. Habitual nature is inborn potentiality which achieved by human study. Natural instincts includes the content following: Human inner physiological law of human life activity, human sense ability, human natural demand and natural emotion of loving the same kind and relatives. Habitual nature contains the cognitive ability and the social desire including intension to benefits, jealousness and abhorrence, fond of sweet music, lust for women and so on.The subject word"human nature"of the thesis of"human nature is evil"of Xun Zi refers to the social desire. The object"evil"refers to the acquired behavior and consequence that human is partial to the dangers and deviated to disorder. The meaning of"human nature is evil"ought to regard as human nature is easy to cause evil behavior. There is no inevitable relationship between evil and human nature. Good and evil said by Xun Zi both indicate the acquired subsequence and ending. There are three aspects of the reason why he added the"evil"to the determination of"nature": at first, he was not conscious in theory; second, the impact of the fighting among people in the Warring States and the cruel social reality; third, in order to criticize Mencius'theory of human good nature. The process of Xun Zi's human nature theory is from"division between nature and human conduct"and ended to"integration of nature and human conduct", based on the simple of human nature and achieved the prosperity of human practice way.
