This paper mainly explores the changes of the God of Earth atdifferent times, reveals some aspects of ancient Chinese god beliefs and does deeperdiscussion their awareness of the folk according to the ancient document and literarydescription.The god of the earth is the Place god in the in folk belief, and all the women andchildren in China know about it. But the peoples only know the images and powers ofthe god of the earth, the aspect about appearance, development and present situationneed the Scholars to do further studies.Introduction: This part briefly describes the god of the earth and the worshipabout it based on previous research, thinks that the development of social productiveforces is the fundamental cause of personification about the god of earth, and desiresthat the driving of the spirit of the peoples is the reason of the change from nationalgod to popular god. The personal relationship is usually respectful when one people isfar from the other people, and is humble when near. The relation of the people and thegod is the same from it. When the god came to the people, the relationship betweenGod and people began to relax and sometimes even to the gods can be fun, mockery.Part1: According to historical documents and sketchbooks I think that variousimages, complex functions and wide distribution are the fundamental characteristics ofthe private god of the earth from the Wei Dynasty to the Song Dynasty, and analysisthe status in the historical period. The hierarchy system, cleating of the power, thegrading system of the Dao-jiao and the entertainment functions of folk belief led to thelow status of the god of earth. The idea of the entertainment functions is not put in theresearch field, and expect that predecessors and teachers scholars can point the error.Part2: This part analysis the basic characteristics of the private god of the earthaccording to the sketchbooks of the Ming and Qing dynasties and point the historicalinheritance between the period of the Ming and Qing dynasties to the period from Hanto Song Dynasties, more importantly a fundamental change has occurred. So I turn to the research about the change ,and think that the social background of the Ming andQing Dynasties, the strengthening of entertainment functions and the idea against theCentralization lead to such changes. I believe that the social background of the Mingand Qing Dynasties is the main reason. The appearing of capitalism, the rising of thecitizen culture and the development of publishing industry promoted the prosperity ofthe novels in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the image of the private god of theearth was formed finally in the period.
