Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot (1796-1875), born in Paris, is one of the greatest landscape painters in French art history. On the basis of inheriting the excellent tradition of Poussin and Lorrain's landscape in 17th century, he promoted French realism landscape oil painting forward to a new height.Corot was honest and frank. Throughout his life he sang the praises of nature, and love for nature and human is embodied in his works. The fantasyland of landscape as well as poetry nature is exhibited from the classical framework and romantic scene in his paintings. He devoted the whole sensible spirit world into the ideal picture, and used the modernized drawing language to describe the life sentiment brought by the scenery in front of his eyes.Corot is also great ideologist and observer. His landscape paintings are crystallized intelligence, full of memory, generalization and refining of nature, which endues his drawing a unique style, full affections, plain and elegant. From the historical characteristic of Corot's landscape oil painting works, this thesis emphatically analysed the unique drawing language in the landscape works. Classicalism, romanticism and realism drawing style competed one after the other on the art stage of 19th century. Taking mid 19th century as the borderline, Corot's prophase and anaphase language style are concluded, detailed and deep analysed in three respects—form and conformation, treatment of color and light, affection expression in his drawing language. His historical significance of transition from classicalism style to realism style, and then impressionism style in the field of landscape oil painting was attained.By seeking the cause, it is discovered that besides the far reaching influence of elder generation drawing style on Corot, his own temperament, his clinging exploration on art, as well as the ideal and pursuit that to try hard to return to the nature and be in harmony with the nature are the important reasons of the formation of his unique drawing language. Therefore, besides tracing back for the academic significance of Corot's landscape oil painting in spanning classicality and modernity, this thesis is more focused on exploration on Corot as an artist and the drawing language from technical layer. Consequently illumination for modern drawing practice and deeper speculation on orientation of painting development is obtained from his painting skills and experiences.
