Zhang Hong is a painter during late Ming dynasty. In the paper, we will study his painting art in following three chapters:first, we will briefly introduce Zhang’s life and then analyze his art style through the paintings:Qixia mountain, Pines in Juqu and Zhiyuan panoramic; second, according to the comparison between the paintings of Zhang Hong and other painters in the same period, Zhang’s style characteristics was highlighted; third, the causes for the style characteristics was explored, and the effects on my creative practice was stated.According to the observation of the realistic landscape, the true, natural states of landscape are obtained and drawn by using meticulous realist style. In the late Ming period, under the influence of retro ideology advocated by Dong Qi Chang, most of painters study ancient paintings. So, in their eyes, what they see is only the landscape of ancient, they observe the landscape by using the ancient way. It is a severe formalism. While, Zhang Hong observes the real mountains and rivers in the realistic world by using his eyes, and draws the natural landscape he saw. Thus, Zhang’s paintings give the readers a natural and realistic feeling in the visual. In the second chapter of the paper, compare Zhang’s landscape paintings with other painters’landscape paintings in the same period, the feeling will be more prominent. Zhang Hong draws the natural and realistic landscape by using the natural visual observation way is very innovative in the creation of landscape painting during the late Ming dynasty.
