Chinese has a long history of jade. From Neolithic time to Ming and Qing dynasty, a unique tradition of jade culture had been made.Up to the time of Ming and Qing, Chinese jade has reached its historical peak with an excellent social environment which provided a broad space for the development of jade. Jade was celebrated by all classes, as aristocrats as well as civilians, mandarins as well as merchants, all projected their ideas onto jade. The crafts of jade carving improved as elements of painting and engraving blended into the art of jade. The form of jade was amazingly various. Archaized objects were accompanied by novelties. Furthermore, during Qing dynasty, foreign cultures once cast a new light on Chinese jade. In all, with thousands of years of development, Chinese jade had formed a unique culture. Thus, Ming and Qing period met the prime time of jade.This article just focuses on the artistic form of jade by consulting the background of society in Ming and Qing.
