The life and death is one of the important problems being focused by philosophers. Hence many philosophers were concerned with life and death in ancient China, among whom pre-Qin scholars considered it in a broad content which include outlook on life, concept of value, burial customs and so on .Owing to its rich resources, profound ideas, refined tastes and unique aesthetic senses, the pre-Qin scholars conceptions for life and death is an essential part of Chinese even world's life and death theory causing a great impact on the descendants. We analysis this task from historical point of view, auxiliary by sociological, archaeological and folklore knowledge. Therefore, we can watch and have a restricted view of the history and praxis of Chinese traditional conceptions for life and death, and offer a historical resource and background material to turn the theory of life and death into a Chinese theory.The article consists of three phases: the introduction, the main body and the conclusion.The Introduction .In this part we illustrate the purpose of this article, research purport, method and essential train of thought, definitude basic question, look back and sum up research fruits of this task, and summarize its worthiness. The aim of this part is easy to grasp this paper.The First Chapter is Interpretation of life-death vocabulary in the pre-Qin period. We put up to express words firstly, and select some important words from pre-Qin ancient book, such as"life","death","crowd". The aim of this part is easy to grasp this paper.The Second Chapter: The historical background of life-death conceptions in the pre-Qin period. The social change of China in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States times has been regarded consistently as a set of transformation of slavery society into feudal one .The social crisis and cultural crisis by the historical social turning is the soil of the various schools of thoughts and their exponents during the pre-Qin times. The scholars in the pre–Qin period penetrated into think of and research into the questions of"life and death".The Third Chapter: The life-death thoughts of the scholars in the pre–Qin period. The scholars in the pre–Qin period research into the questions of"life and death".In this chapter, we illuminate viewpoints of Confucius(孔子) ,Mencius(孟子),Xunzi(荀子)of Confucianism(儒家), Mo-tse(墨子)of Mohist School(墨家),Laozi(老子),Zhuangzi(庄子)of Taoist School(道家), Han Fei-zi(韩非)of Legalist School(法家). Seventh, we do a comparative study on the life-death thoughts of the four schools in the pre–Qin period.The forth Chapter: Thoughts on life and death of the scholars in the pre–Qin period. Chinese Traditional View on Living and Death has a great impact on the descendants, and give a brief explanation what the mode of them influenced late ages.The Epilogue gives a summary of basic form of life and death concept in the pre–Qin period, and has an outline for original idea in this paper.
