As a most direct and effective way of acquiring Knowledge, reading has always played an important role in second language teaching and learning. To obtain Knowledge of a foreign language by reading is often important to academic studies, professional success, and personal development. It is a major part of College English teaching, and plays an important role in developing students'English proficiency. However, the Mongolian students'reading ability is not satisfactory and there exists reading obstacles in Mongolian students'reading. They find it difficult to improve their reading performance. So it is necessary to do some further study in this field.This research reports an experimental study on training of English reading strategy to Mongolian college students as the solution to the reading obstacles of the Mongolian Students. The study investigated the obstacles among the Mongolian college students, and integrated some valid reading strategies training in the reading class. The research tries furthermore to find out the effect that the effective reading strategies can bring to the students and to the students'total reading level.In this study,78 students of junior Mongolian college students in Physics and chemistry departments are chosen as Experimental group and comparison group. The students receive a sixteen-week reading strategy-based training. The method for training is integrating strategic reading instruction into reading class (ISRI). The subjects took the pretest and posttest,and filled out a pre-treatment questionnaire and reading report. The data were statistically analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social sciences (SPSS l3.0), in addition,the answers to these questions are positive: ISRI can be trained in the reading class of Mongolian group, it can improve Mongolian students'reading ability and meanwhile the results manifests that the training has the greatest influence on the medium,and weak students.The thesis composes five chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction; Chapter 2 reviews the domestic and international research on reading strategy; Chapter 3 highlights the present study by describing the subjects and the main issues are discussed in the chapter; Chapter4 displays the procedures of the experimental research, research findings and discussion. Chapter 5 offers the conclusions of the study and the results are discussed. It also provides methodological and practical implications, points out the limitations of the study, and gives recommendations for further researches in the field.
