With the deepening of reform and opening-up and the enhancement of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, an increasing number of imported films and television programs are shown in our country. As a result, audio-visual translation is ever increasing in both quantity and quality; however, the theoretical research into audio-visual translation relatively lags behind.The present research into the translation strategies applied in the script of the dubbed version of The Da Vinci Code shown in 2006 is based on the Reception Theory. It is hoped that the strategies will be of benefit not merely to film translating activities but to the profound translation theories as well.When looking back at the history of literary criticism in the 20th century, literary criticism has undergone three theoretical changes: author-oriented paradigm, text--oriented paradigm, and reader--oriented paradigm. Horizon of expectations refers to readers'mindset; horizon of experience material; horizon of condition; horizon of expectations as a social contract; horizon contains literary norms and values but also desires, demands, aspirations. As is known, the audiences have the final say in judging a foreign film. If the translated versions do not suffice for the audiences, they will feel remorseful.This text is divided into five chapters. Chapter One proposes the objectives, the significance, the necessity and the organization of the thesis. Chapter Two gives a historical review of the related research into film translation, classifies the types of film dubbing, summarizes the features of film dubbing, and eventually compares the two main forms of film translation, namely subtitling and dubbing. Chapter Three introduces the theoretical framework of the study—the Reception Theory. In Chapter Four, the strategies are summarized, and the criteria by which qualified translations are judged should be known. Lastly, the requirements for film translators are tentatively put forward. Chapter Five summaries the whole thesis and comes to the conclusion.
