Dan Brown‘s The Da Vinci Code is a successful detective novel, enjoying high reputation in the world. There are two Chinese versions, namely, the version for mainland China co-translated by Zhu Zhenwu, Wu Sheng and Zhou Yuanxiao, and Taiwan version translated by You Chuanli. This thesis makes a comparative study on the two Chinese versions of The Da Vinci Code from the perspective of Rewriting Theory, describing and analyzing the characteristics of the Chinese versions. The thesis holds that three factors of Rewriting Theory-- ideology, poetics and patronage influence the translators, which in turn further influence the translation. With comparative and descriptive method, this study attempts to analyze different characteristics of the two Chinese versions. In comparison, it is found that the translators, Zhu Zhenwu and You Chuanli, understand the source text in different ways; at the same time, different translators have different target language readers, so the rewritings differ greatly. This thesis analyzes the subjectivity of the translators as well, since only when translators show the subjectivity of the translator, do they realize the rewriting of the original.By comparing the original text and the translated versions, it shows that in the process of translation, ideology has great influence on the choice of subject, translation methods, and details of the processing; poetics, as a literary standard, has an impact on the wording and phrasing; and patronage controls the ideology of publishers and also plays an important role. Owing to different ideology and poetics, the translators rewrite the original text in order to make the translation in accordance with the expectations of target language readers by trying to make the translation understood and accepted by new readers.
