A Study On Chronotope Of Romain Rolland's Novels

The thesis intends to explore into Chronotope of Romain Rolland's novels, with an emphasis on the discussion of the complex relationship between chronotope and theme,style,context,plot in Romain Rolland's novels through text analysis of Jane Christophe,L'arme enchantéand Colas Breugnon ,three of Romain Rolland's main novels with the help of the chronotope theory created by Bakhtin .This thesis includes four parts besides the preface and conclusion.In the first part the problem to be tackled and method to be employed is presented, with relationship between them being discussed.The second part offers an glimpse into influence of some outstanding novelists on Romain Rolland and reveals the difference between Romain Rolland and Prust, one of his contemporay writers to reflect the succession and innovation in chronotope in Romain Rolland's novels.In the third and fourth parts, objects are interpreted concretely based on Bakhtin's chronotope theory. Representation of chronotope in those novels, such as unity of style and context,time-space symbol,function of time-space arrangement,orgiastic time-space, is considered in this part.
