This thesis tries to approach the difficult position of people's inner world, who live in the Chinese modernized process, and the difficult position characterizes the mark of modern men."A Dream of Red Mansions", novels by Lu Xun and"The Children of Rich Man"by Lu Ling have been chosen to indicate a spiritual way. In these texts they both include novel texts and Lu Xun who is a modern man himself."A Dream of Red Mansions"is not a totally modernist novel, but on the long spiritual way it bears the significance of starting a new age. For one thing, it combines the world of epic and the one of novel in its predictive way, which is the beginning of modern novels and it distinguishes itself from the previous novels with its specific property; it shares the modern novel's keynote of"to probe being", which is more important, it touches people to their modernist position and makes an impressive display.Lu Xun is the most advanced modern man in modernized China. By reading"Hometown"closely , I described in this thesis modern man's experience of going back home and their painness on finding their desolated hometown, wondering about with no home to go to. By reading"The Shadow Farewell"and"Transient Guest", I tried to describe tense mental state before going on a long journey alone, and the transient guest's painness and hesitation. In view of this, I regard Lu Xun as a lonely foreigner going towards to death through darkness.Lu Ling's work of genius"The Children of Rich Man"expresses amazingly such rich and complicated modern experience - the spiritual difficult position also. Compared with the Rusia Writer Dostoyevsky ,the similarity of the style and the spirit of them can be seen. And in the comparisim, the spiritual backdraw of"The Children of Rich Man"that there is neither stream of light nor power of newborn can be explained. The thesis also explores in perspective Jiang Weizu's mental world constituted by madness, melancholy, poetic flavour and death. In my thesis, I tried to imagine and depict the difficult position of modern men's spirit by interpreting the works, and also tried to make an individual understanding towards the spiritual position of the literature at present.
