The classic status of A Dream of Red Mansions has been constructing by various forces during the development of modern and contemporary literature. The modern inheritance of the art of such a classical narrative text is essentially the modern evolution of the narrative of Chinese fiction, rather than the effect to the modern Chinese literature of this novel. In this sense, this dissertation aims at re-thinking and exploring ontologically the inherent regularity of the narrative art of Chinese fiction, in the field of the modern inheritance of the art of A Dream of Red Mansions.A view shared by researchers is that the artistic inheritance of A Dream of Red Mansions has been reflected in three aspects:a), the realistic writings; b). the family epics; c). the poetically cultural narration. Starting from such bases, this dissertation is to analysis and discourse "the inheritance as a common literary resource" and "the inheritance as a fiction paradigm" of A Dream of Red Mansions. The inheritance of A Dream of Red Mansions in the modern and contemporary novels, which performed well as long as characterization is concerned, is but a type of inheritance of a general literary resource. In Chinese modern and contemporary fiction, realism has been the mainstream narrative paradigm. Under this background, the ultimate pursuit of characterization is nothing but the "model" that features a nature of cognitive characteristics. However, characters in A Dream of Red Mansions boast of a revealing feature of "overflowing model", as the construction of physical space in this novel shows a flexibly evoking rhetorical principle. The "reality"(this side of the world) and the transcending and inquiring "illusion"(the other side of the world) existed simultaneously in the physical space of this novel. The rhetorical strategy of hiding the specific historical time of A Dream of Red Mansions, which enhanced the ultimate inquiry of the fictional narration, constructed a "real" world in a higher level. While what the realistic narration obeys is a rhetorical principle that just reproduces the real physical space. Thus the unique rhetorical rule of A Dream of Red Mansions, which is a composition generated from the original life, especially the human ecology in the Chinese society, has not been fully valued or inherited in the past historical periods. As for the "family epics" in modern and contemporary fictions, their performance of "using the family as a metaphor of the nation" and pursue of righteous expression both lead to the development of the framework of a novel in a nature-revealing and necessary logic. However, the key point and ultimate aim of A Dream of Red Mansions are more transcendent. This novel does not obey the "’historically hopeful rule". And the non-causal logic, after the narration of contemporary Chinese literature has lost the support of "Utopia", offers a new possible approach of grasping the reality. The narrative of A Dream of Red Mansions, which has mobilized all kinds of resources of traditional Chinese literature and culture, effectively improved the artistic quality of Chinese fiction with its adoption of classical poems and inter-textual ity. However, most modern and contemporary fictions of China are facing the "reality" or "creative", at the same time being apparently limited in the inheritance of the "poetic" and "inter-text"In summary, the unique narrative paradigm of Chinese fiction created by A Dream of Red Mansions has been lost in modern and contemporary fictions. Yet the value of "A Dream of Red Mansions Paradigm" is still to be discovered in light of the possibility of Chinese narrative in the future.
