On The Relationship Between Simaqian And Zhouyi

On the subject which is on the relationship between Sima qian and"Zhou yi", Since 1908 Mr. Liu shipei began studying with the article of"Sima qian descuss Zhou yi", it has been nearly 100 years. And even today, this subject is a focus which attractts many scholars. Most scholars keen on verifying the system of Sima qian studying"Zhou yi", demonstrating the influence from"Zhou yi"to Sima qian in the field of Sima qian's point of view about life and scholarship. However, some originally important issues are not given sufficient attention. For example, Is Sima qian's evaluation about"Zhou yi"reasonable? What is Sima qian'attitud to"Zhou yi"of Xinag-shu? What did Sima qian inherit in the course of studying both history and"Zhou yi"? How much historical significance has it? My paper attempts to answer the questions above as well as those questions which some scholars have discussed but not fully discussed. I hope that my paper can help this subject be discussed deeply and widely.About the methods of studying, my paper uses the methods of learning literature and logical analysis and the grasping macrocosmic and microcosmic analysis. First, I gather information on the topic of literature, then, I summarize and inherit and digest the results. Next, I demonstrate the instance about Sima qian's studing"Zhou yi"and I research"the Record of History"and I analyse the examples of Sima qian's citing"Zhou yi"as well as evaluating"Zhou yi". Furthermore, I explore the degree of Sima qian's understanding about"Zhou yi". On the precondition that Sima qian knew"Zhou yi"very well, I study the influence from"Zhou yi"to Sima qian's writing"the Record of History"﹑scholarship﹑thinking and spirit in microcosmic perspective. I also study the system of Sima qian's studying both history and"Zhou yi"as well as the historical significance of it from macrocosmic perspective.I think that it has closely connection between Sima qian and"Zhou yi". Learning"Zhou yi"was a tradition of Sima qian's family as well as the tradition of historical official form the Pre-Qin dynasty. As a historical official , Sima qian destined to has closely connection with"Zhou yi". Sima qian had a unique understanding about"Zhou yi". He believed that"Zhou yi"was written by great men in ancient time, it mainly discussed about the world, Yin-yang, Four-seasons, Wu-xing. As a book of divination,"Zhou yi"was profound and mystical. In"the Record of History", Sima qian's style of talking"Zhou yi"is flexible. There are four types in talking"Zhou yi". For the style, Sima qian talked mainly in Zhou yi's principle, but he never negated in the theories of Xiang-shu. It told us that Sima qian knew it very well that"Zhou yi"was a collection of witchcraft wisdom and the philosophic in a body. From the combining the nature and men﹑the thought of changing﹑the thought of reaching the dame goal form different ways in"Zhou yi", Sima qian proposed his philosophy of writing"the Record of History"which is researching the combination of the nature and men﹑researching the changes of ancient time and today﹑writing an unique paper. His thought of history and politics and superstition are same with"Zhou yi"in some way. And furthermore, his spirit was also influenced by"Zhou yi". Sima qian inherited Confucius by studying both history and"Zhou yi", and he influenced the tradition of studying both history and"Zhou yi"in the later time. Sima qian became a great master of knowing both history and"Zhou yi"."Zhou yi"is profound, it is said as the fountainhead of Chinese culture. Sima qian is a great master of history, he started the official historical record. There is complicated linking between Sima qian and"Zhou yi", Today our studying this subject , not only have the conducive to push the excellent traditional culture forward, but also have practical significance to our daily life.
