The creation of Record of History has been arousing the successive scholars' interest and through their effort in proving, explaning and reasoning, its inherent cultural value has been fully cultivated. Especially since the last century, researchers' perspective has become wider and wider as it can be seen that all discipline introduce new viewpoints to illustrate the encyclopedic nature of Record of History in a deep way. However, it is rather difficult to find some articles which focus on the acceptance situation of Record of History in successive dynasties from the Western acceptance aesthetic theory. Based on the Tang Dynasty, the paper tries to folly research the acceptance situation in Tang Dynasty and illustrate how the intellectuals' acceptance of the classic shape the spirit of the time ,in order to find a new perspective.In the introduction, we briefly introduce the theories about aesthetics of reception. In chapter I , the social conditions on the reception of Record of History are discussed.By sorting out various literature, we attempt to highlight the wide and conscientious reception of Record of History by scholars in Tang Dynasty after the subject "Three Histories" was set up in the imperial examinations and its circulation among the people. In chapter II, we probe the reception in historiography. The historiography was very prosperous in Tang Dynasty, and the historians learned from Record of History both in methodology and theory when compiling historical works. We analyze those historical works and the impact Record of History exerted on them, so as to mirror the actual achievements in this reception.In chapter III, we delve into the reception in Tales of Marvels of Tang. Proceeding from the social intercourse culture, investigating the candidates' preview phenomenon before the imperial examinations.tracing to the source of the concept "history and stories, the identical essence", we compare the text of Record of History with that of Tales of Marvels, and expound the important role the former played in the maturing of the latter's style. In chapter IV, we approach the reception in the poetry of Tang. By sifting the poetry talks through the ages, we draw the ouline of this reception, and then pick out a few poets to carry out our expounding from points to area, in order that we can display the divelopment of the historical materials from the Record of History to the poetry.In chapter V , we discuss the reception in the prose of Tang. By analyzing the theoretical process of the A,cient-style Prose Campaign. We inquire into the direct and indirect undersuanding and application the prose writers, who regarded Record of History as a banner, made of the masterpiece. Finally.in the conclusion, we briefly make some additional remarks on some issues concerned in our study.
