Wei Yuan is the first to open his eyes to recognize the whole world in modern society of china, he is the greatest ideologist of late Qing dynasty .the most impressed thought is his"Learning Merits fron the Foreign to Conquer the Foreign".His thought isn't brought forward by chance .Wei Yuan is the master of Jinwen scripture, who is good at the true meaning of Jinwen. He who likes history very much succeeds the practical spirit of"Zhedong school".He puts his heart into the study of practicality. He is the great representative of Huxiang culture where the patriotic spirit influences him deeply. His thought based on the change thought of Jinwen scripture, the practical thought of Zhedong School and the patriotic spirit of Huxiang culture is the sublimation in his life. The background of the thought is similar to that of"Yangwu movement",which influences the slogan of"Yangwu movement", such as"learning enemy's best technique to become stronger". In fact it guides the concrete practice of"Yangwu movement". Wei Yuan's thought has a lot of similarity with Kang Youwei's, which influences Kang Youwei deeply. It also play an active part in Mingzhi Reform in Japanese.Because of time limitation, his thought still has some faults and pity. The idea of"enemy"doesn't removed .The pride of nation still exists .Learning and imitating the west more ,but absent of reform and creation, he can't deeply realize the corruption and uncultured situation of feudalization ,just does some repairing. As one of the oldest and the most mutual traditional societies, the process of modernization of china is also a process of learning the west. From the point of modernization ,in some sense it can be thought to be the main idea of Chinese modernization ,which leads to the way and the orientation of development in Chinese modernization.
