A Study On The Social Popular Names Since The Reform And Open Policy

This paper mainly systematically and comprehensive study the social popular names in the modern Chinese's common spoken Chinese which used among adults since the reform and open policy.On one hand, because of the social development,appellations'own color and needs to social contact, the popular names used in social contact assume a variety phenomenon. According to the popular names'produced time, there both have the traditional popular names such as"Comrade","Master worker", and the new popular names such as"Teacher","Boss"; According to the popular names'produced ways, some are used again from the old popular names such as"Mr","Miss", some are spreaded from the special appellations such as"beauty","handsome guy", and the other are borrowed from the relative appellations such as"uncle","aunt". In the course of communication, they have the functions of guiding communication,express- ing feeling and signing culture. Although its use is complex and changeable, there still have regularity. First of all, they should follow the principles of politeness,decency and acceptance, these three principles are complementary to each other and indispensable; Secondly, the selection and usage of the popular names are restricted by six objective factors namely the social environment,culture,geographical differences,sex,age,identity,occasion and three subjective factors namely ideas of value,social psychology,communication motives, these factors also are complementary to each other.The other hand, because of the popular names'diversify and limitations as well as the influence of traditional ethical ideas, Chinese still lack the popular names which can be used in each social stratum and be generally accepted to all members of society. The diversify and missing link of the popular names reflect that tremendous changes have taken place on the new period's social politics,economy,culturep,people's ideas and so on since the reform and open policy, which has the times characteristic. Judging from the present situation, it's not possible and also not necessary to unite the popular names. The popular names will continue to maintain the phenomena of diversify and missing link in a long period.
