This paper is about the analysis of legal text, focusing on the application of linguistic knowledge into the analysis of characteristics and structure of legal text. It belongs to the newly-build discipline-----Forensic Linguistics. The paper analyses the characteristics of legal text from micro and macro view. In micro view, the paper begins with the examination of lexicon of legal language, which includes legal terms, popular words in legal sense, loan words, archaism, jargon and vague meaning words. Then it comes to characteristics on the level of syntactic, which contains discussion of long sentence, reduplication of synonyms or near-synonyms, antonymic pairs, adverbial clauses, nominalization and so on. And then the semantic level is about Speech Act theory and the avoidance of Indirect Speech Act in legal text. In macro view, the paper deals with the application of Text Analysis into interpretation of legal text, in which there are two subtitles. The first one is theme and TP Pattern, which focuses on the different TP Pattern of English and Chinese and how to use it interpret the legal text. The second one is Coherence/Coherent, which illustrate the devices used in legal text. With the perfection of China's legal system, the study of forensic language has a promising future. And as an inter-discipline, forensic linguistics will contribute more to the application of linguistics and law.
