| This paper is a translation project of a forensic linguistics work named Patterns of Linguistic Variation in American Legal English(excerpts of Chapter3).The specific target texts are the excerpts of Chapter 3: the lexical use of different legal genres.In the part of case analysis,this paper analyzes the characteristics of the deixis and cohesion in the legal linguistics,and emphatically introduces the translation strategies of the deixis in legal texts and discourse cohesion in legal language.Common translation strategies and methods include: domestication,conversion,omission,literal translation and free translation.The results of the project show that the mastery of the English legal texts helps to ensure the professionalism of the translation,and the use of relevant translation strategies is conducive to ensuring the accuracy of the translation and improving the quality of the translation.However,due to the differences of culture,grammatical structure and expression custom between China and the West,the use of deixis and cohesive mechanisms are not the same.Therefore,in the translation of legal linguistics texts,we shall grasp the logical relationship to clearly and accurately translate out the deixis and cohesive elements in original texts with the above-mentioned and other strategies and skills according to the context.This paper is hoped that the translation strategies will provide a valuable reference for the translation in the same type of text. |
