With the development of the globalization of the world' s economy, the conception and formation of Chinese art have been gradually merging with the Western culture. In the field of Chinese oil painting, the flood and infiltration of various trends of new thoughts from other nations bring us new ideas, but meanwhile, shake our intrinsic values aesthetic standards. Of course, we cannot deny the innovation and exploration of our artistic ideology and forms stimulated by the current Western painting, however, we should also be aware of some trends of thoughts which attempt to degenerate our national culture, including those which flaunt he banner of "art" but actually against the human and civilization. If we accept them, our artwork tends to be farther away from the personality of our nation and eventually lose our right of speech. Today we are trying to make creative art based on developing the traditional culture of our nation, and at the same time, echoing the voice of our age. We do believe that we are capable to produce the contemporary art which belongs to ourselves, which conveys the spirit, wisdom and technique of our nation, but merely the simple copy and imitation of the foreign art. Thus, how to acknowledge the relationship between Traditional Chinese culture and contemporary artist creation, together with its wide and profound application in modern art of painting, and the experiment of the modern artwork of oil painting with national comprehension, are important subjects faced by us, the new generation of artists. In this essay, I focus on the national spirit and national emotions I have experimented and practiced in my artwork of oil painting. With my knowledge and understanding of Traditional Chinese elements, and the statements on the experience and usage of those elements made by the oil painters both from home and abroad, with the combination of what I have learned and understand about the national and local creation, I appropriately blend traditional Chinese elements into my artwork of oil painting, reflected on the images and colors, and manage to be more suitable formatively and spiritually.
