As a strong way in promoting cultural communication, movies are deeply influencing our daily life and concept. Thus more and more scholars begin to do research on subtitles translation. Until today, the scholars' theories can't meet the need of the translators to guide their translating activities. Presently the studies in both China and abroad tend to be experiential, prescriptive and linguistic. There are not enough systematic and practical theories from cultural perspective on subtitles translation. The importance of its cultural role has not been taken enough attention in the translating activities. As above-mentioned, this thesis wants to arouse more attention on the cultural role of movie translation. According to postcolonialism, the eastern movie-translating is influenced deeply by the dominance status of the western culture. It is quite necessary and urgent to find an approach to guide the translating activities both in the west and in the east.By analyzing the subtitle translation of Ang Lee's film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (the translating method corresponding to its cultural attitude--hybridity which means keeping a balance in using foreignizing and domesticating )and its success in transmitting Chinese cultures abroad and meeting the taste of the target audience, this thesis attempts to prove that in the context of postcolonialism a right cultural attitude is quite important and the right attitude will do a great benefit to the nourishment of the two cultures and the development of the whole human-beings.In the context of postcolonialism, Chinese culture needn't accommodate itself to the west culture by loosing its own characters. On the contrary, the eastern cultural also can't take the resistant attitude which will block their future development. The cultural attitude of this movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon by keeping the two together is reasonable and practical both in introducing the source cultural to the target one and in enriching the two.
