| Since the Super Girl in 2004, the show program has becoming more and more popular in China, which has made it to be the hottest kind of television program. As the consumption culture draws the attention of the public and consumption beauty turns to be the fashion, show program has turned out to be a phenomenon of culture, entertainment and aestheticism, which wins the attention of all walks of life in society.This thesis stars from the aesthetic point of view to analyze the phenomenon of show program in China with the theory of consumption culture. Therefore we can get the root reasons why this program is spreading so fast. After the full exploration on the show program, this thesis attempts to get a rough idea on the establishment and development on the Chinese society's pursuit for aesthetics through analyzing the traits of the show program.This thesis is divided into three parts.In the first part it introduces the different meaning of"show". Through the comparison of the various forms of"show"since ancient times between East and West, it reveals that the show program in China recently is not the simple duplicate of the Western program Pop Idol, instead, it is established on the basis of ancient Chinese culture.In the second part it starts from the analysis on the reasons of the show program's existence and development on the background of consumption society and therefore concludes the traits of the show program themselves. Nowadays, the consumption society not only supplies the birth of it with the material support. The commodity-centered mind in the consumption society and the cultural background in China recently give it unique cultural meaning.In the last part this thesis makes exploration on the traits of Chinese society on the whole on the basis of the former two parts and therefore points out that the aesthetic pursuit are characterized by the traits of fashion, plural, there is a lack of intrinsic aesthetic value, the appreciation of ugliness, aesthetic Unisex.
