The Study Of Internal And External Causes Of Chinglish

Chinglish, a linguistic term, is defined as deformed English produced by Chinese people from violating the general English rules, being ignorant of culture, which demonstrate the interference of the mother tongue that fails to fulfill the informative function as a language. Many scholars interested in this field have discussed this linguistic issue from different angles and therefore contributed a lot.Major efforts of the thesis go into analyzing the causes of Chinglish on several dimensions. Generally speaking, the author perceives this issue from two aspects: one is the intrinsic or internal reasons; the other is the extrinsic or external reasons. The former reason of Chinglish is age constrains. And this part is discussed from neurolinguistic perspective. The extrinsic reason of Chinglish is traced to interference of mother tongue of Chinese, which comes in turn a process called negative transfer. The author tackles this unwelcome but realistic transfer from discussions of culture patterns as well language system at levels of phonology, morphology, syntax, discourse.Through literature reviewing and in-dept analysis of data, the author reaches the tentative conclusion that Chinglish is an inevitable mental disposition and linguistic phenomenon in the process of Chinese students learning English. Although it is unacceptable, it is still the evidence of learners' efforts. Therefore, we should take a tolerant attitude toward it.
