The figure of cities in our mind are always mixed with historical memeries and literature imagination. In my paper,the figure of Beijing in modern chinese literature is the figure of Beijing city which is full of culture expressions and spiritual thickness in lots of literary output in modern chinese literature,it is brought about by gifted authors and consisted in the literature world.The figure of Beijing in modern chinese literature had a lot of faces, and the traditional culture standed by quadrangle houses and the modern culture standed by Beijing University were the most important and different ones.Being the living houses of peking man for hundreds of yeras, quadrangle houses standed for the noble spirite of traditional culture.First,it contained many native culture materials such as people's daily life and moral outlook,and then it became the symbol of the culture of Beijing, because of its regal and noble spirite influence.As the first modern university of china, Beijing University in modern chinese literature not only got a lot of acacemic achievements,but also enlighted chinese people and leaded the modernization of china. As a pioneer of modern culture ,the energy and emotion of Beijing University influenced people's spirit and the culture of Beijing,and attacked its old and conservative faces .It made Beijing University been a fresh part of Beijing city,and had its special culture meaning and spirite value,too.
