The Development Of Net-based News Listening Teaching And Testing System For English Majors

The article starts by listing the differences and problems of English news listening teaching and points out that this system is specially developed for English majors and declares the necessity of the development.The article then analyses the reasons of application weakness of most present net-based English listening teaching and testing system, from application platform, programmer, market demand, system upgrade and maintenance. Then it proposes to specially design and develop a net-based English listening teaching and testing application platform and testing database for English majors. With personal teaching experience, the author puts the emphasis on news listening teaching and testing for English majors at the very beginning and enables the testing database to be generally large, up to date and easily refreshable. In selection of developing tools and technology, the author takes full advantage of those that are easy to accept, understand and use for teachers of English majors, for the convenience of future system maintenance and upgrade. The author intends to change the traditional mode of system usage, maintenance and upgrade in which system users and technicians work separately and have to cooperate.The article then elaborates the progresses of system designing and detailed information of applied technology. The whole system is based on B/S structure, with IIS server software, ASP, Access, SQL, VBScript and JavaScript technologies. The main developing software is Dreamweaver and the audio processor is Sound Forge. The system is consisted of 6 modules, including news publishing, class teaching and self-study, class quiz and final test, score report and query, downloads and hit report.The article also elaborates some main programs and demonstrates the successful operation of the system which has fully accomplished all designed missions.
