In the western countries, Shyness is always described as a kind of personality characteristic, a kind of social intercourse attitude or a kind of repressed appearance. It had been investigated by many psychologists, and fresh achievements were made. However in China, specialists and scholars start to research shyness only in recent years. Of course, we have yielded some results, but those are not enough. The cross-cultural research proved the universality of shyness, most informants report they have experienced certain degree of shyness in various culture. Liuxiangpin′s studies show that the shy experience of Chinese undergraduates are more widespread and more serious compared to other nations'undergraduates, and we conclude that it is necessary to study the Chinese undergraduates′shyness deeply from all sides. In recent years, most of scholars in china have already researched shyness by questionnaire, but experimental research was very little. This paper is trying to know more about shyness by questionnaire research and eye movement technology. After shy and non-shy undergraduates are selected by questionnaire, we study the difference between the two groups in facial expression recognition and stranger and familiar face memorization by eye movement technology. The results indicate as following by the two experiments of facial expression recognition and stranger and familiar face memorization:(1)Shy undergraduates gave significantly little correct responses than non-shy undergraduates in stranger and familiar face memorization, but mean reaction time in this experiment did not differ between the shy and non-shy groups.(2) The average fixation duration of non-shy undergraduates is longer than shy group in stranger face memorization. Fixation and saccade count of shy group is more than non-shy group in stranger face memorization.(3) Average pupil size and fixation time in the interest area of eyes did not differ between the shy and non-shy groups in stranger and familiar face memorization.(4) Mean reaction time and accuracy in facial expression recognition did not differ between the shy and non-shy groups. Mean reaction time of different facial expression had significant difference. Mean reaction time of happy face is shorter than three other faces, there were no significant differences in mean reaction time of sad face\angry face\ fear face.(5) Fixation and saccade count of shy group is more than non-shy group in facial expression recognition. The average fixation duration of non-shy undergraduates is also longer than shy group in this experiment.(6) When recognizing happy face, fixation and saccade count of shy group is more than non-shy group.(7) Dwell and fixation time in the interest area of non-shy group is more than shy group, but the first fixation time in the interest area of shy group is more than non-shy group. Average pupil size in the interest area did not differ between the shy and non-shy groups in facial expression recognition.
