Chinese Folk Art is the valuable asset of Chinese culture and it is the crystallization of our culture accumulated for thousands of years. It has the connotation of Great Spirit, and it has the third shaping system which is independent of the eastern and western shaping systems and can reflect China primitive culture. It has its own unique color concept, and can express the spirit of the Chinese culture. In the complicated art system, we must be clear relationship between folk art and other arts. And we must be clear the dialectical and unitary relationship between ethnic arts, including Chinese folk art, fine palace arts, scholar art and religion art, and so on. They have always maintained both antagonistic and complementary situation, and supported the Chinese nation's survival and development.Chinese folk art is the Chinese nation's body art. It is the art created by China's hundreds of millions of working masses groups in order to meet their social needs. In several thousand of the long river of history, it promotes inherit and development of ethnic arts in various historical stages. Its cultural content and artistic form represent cultural groups'primitive universe concept, aesthetic concept, emotional temperament, and psychological quality. The folk art which belongs to the cultural origin shows a variety of styles during its evolution from its original shape to its civilized form, such as pictures, paper cutting, carving, pottery, and so on. Pictures have warm, bright colors, and bring people the festival atmosphere of jubilation, good fortune, and aliveness. Paper-cut bring people the atmosphere of festivals with exaggerated images and forms of rich significance. All in all, considering all categories of folk art, they share common characteristics: they all have simple and frank artistic means, exaggerated shape and color images. They all express the pure feeling and the yearning for a better life of folk art.The unique shape and color system of Folk Art give the greatest impact on creation of figure painting. And these two systems affect the formation of styles of many contemporary artists to different degrees. In view of the current collision of east and west cultures, the innovation of Ink figure painting has become a trend of the times. Ink figure painting no longer legalistically immerses in the traditional culture of the ancient times, and ignores the progress of the times and the liberation of the entire human thinking. But how to innovate is an issue worth our thinking. Considering many contemporary artists'road of innovation, they more or less borrow some characteristics of the folk art. Some borrow its simple and frank artistic shaping means; some borrow its expressive tension of colors; some place some civil signals repeatedly, then combine current characteristics of the times, draw shining points of foreign artistic schools, and finally form works of art with distinctive national features. Only through deep study of the intrinsic characteristics of folk art and grasp of its spiritual connotation, can we materialize it as fresh blood of ink figure painting. This is a gradual process. And it needs to constantly upgrade personal overall quality, mould individual temperament in life, treat life with peaceful mind of state, and add the thought towards life into creation. To raise the personal cultural quality is critical for the creation of works of deep thought. Frank and simple distinctive ink language and creation of images are necessary to create artistic works with rich connotation, supernatural and pure tone. In short, for our nation painting, in order to survive in the world of painting art-lam, it should first be taken root in its primitive culture soil, then combine the characteristics of the times and personality and life experience. Only in this way, it can display a new look.
