Since 20th century, on the influence of the multi-culturalism and cultural relativism, the World Music course has come into being. This essay deals with the World Music course in universities of America.Chapter 1: Explain the concept of"world music", outline the development and uncover the idea of multi-cultural education behind this word. World Music course certainly is the outcome of combining of the multi-cultural education idea and curricula. Based on the comparing research with Ethnomusicology, deepen the understanding of the World Music course.Chapter 2: Research on the base of the World Music course. Research on course has many different"subject perspective". Philosophy, Sociology and psychology are the basic theory subjects of the course research. Study on these basic theory subjects is essential to the construction and development of the World Music course. In this chapter, I will research the World Music course from the philosophical, sociological, and psychological perspective, and deepen the understanding of the importance of the World Music course.Chapter 3: Generalize the development of the world music education in America by analyzing the meaning of the world music education in universities of America. Introduce the current situation and the world music education in UCLA.Chapter 4: Analyze the development of the world music education in China from diachronic perspective. Compare to the world music education in America, we will obtain inspirations in following five aspects: the education idea changing, the academic research strengthening, teachers training, courses systematically designing, and international communication broadening.
