The Contrafactive Category In Modern Chinese

This thesis is about a theory of contrafactive category in Chinese grammar. Based on the describing of words and phrases which can be used to express contrafactive notion ,we endeavor to explore how the contrafactive meaning has come into being and in which its values lies. Drawing on recent findings and achievements in various fields, including cognitive semantics , pragmatics and discourse analysis ,we try to make a step forward in clearly building the semantics categories in Modern Chinese Language ,so as to lay a foundation for the further study on this issue.The thesis is divided into 5 parts,Chapter 1 addresses the theoretical prerequisites and methodology . Chapter 2 to Chapter 4 describe the contrafactive words and phrases and explain how they work ,which is the main part and the core of the thesis. Chapter 5 explicates the values of these words and phrases, then is the conclusion and generalization of the whole thesis.
