A Report On The Translation Of Automobile Operator's Manual

With globalization and the development of China's economy, there have been outbound tourism and overseas investment boom in China. According to the researches, automobiles are always people's first choice when they travel abroad. And it is very important for drivers to know the performance of cars and safe-driving knowledge. The author was entrusted by Golden Global Wedding and Cutting Co.,Ltd. to translate parts of safety from Mercedes-Benz E-Class Operator's Manual. In terms of text type, automobile operator's manual belongs to informative text, the main function of which is to provide operational instruction for users. Conciseness, clearness and logic are the evident features of automobile operator's manual.There are three parts in this report. Part one is the brief introduction to this translation program and features. Part two is about the project management including the preparation made before the start of this task, the management over the whole project as well as self-check and revision of its Chinese version. Part three is the main part of this report. By analyzing specific words and sentence examples in Mercedes-Benz E-Class Operator's Manual, the report intends to explore the proper translation strategy, as well as analyze the translation process with regards to the aspects of words translation and long sentences translation. The last part is a self-examination of the translation process. This report is accomplished in the hope of providing a general understanding and reference for translators who are working on or will work on the translation of automobile operator's manual.
