Henride Toulouse-Lautrec was a legendary painter who was active in Montmartre of Paris in the late 19th century. In his artistic products, he has portrayed a lot of pubs, nightclubs, circus troupes and entertainment sites, among which there were praise, as well as mock, showing his complicated and contradictory psychology. Lautrec broke away from the conservative style of impressionist school, taking an artistic style of his own. Although his life was quite short, he opened up a painting style which made the human nature become many-faceted and the originality and expressivity of colors. From 19th century to the early 20* century, Lautrec's products behaved as the bridge andtransition of expressionist painting, and played an important role in French painting.Unlike ordinary painters, Lautrec owned his "special" understanding and presentation of "truth, good and beauty". Lautrec was the "special" guard of spirit home. His "speciality" lay in his unique and profound understanding towards "truth, good and beauty". Moreover, he opened up a new way to feel "truth, good and beauty" through the sublimation of principal part's consciousness during the portrayal of particular theme.In the introduction of the thesis, it briefly said the reason of this paper and the present conditions of related research. In the first chapter, it described Lautrec himself and his life experience. In the second chapter, it explained the background and why spirit home needed guarding and its inevitability. The third chapter was the main body of this thesis; it deeply expounded Lautrec's understanding towards "truth, good and beauty" as well as its presentation in his paintings. In the fourth chapter, it discussed Lautrec's artistic value and enlightenment to contemporary development. In the conclusion, it made a summary to questions raised in the paper. The author hoped that through the explanation of "truth, good and beauty" expressed in Lautrec's paintings, we could gain some benefit and inspiration in our artistic practice.
