The Impacts Of Industrial Revolution On The Development Of National Education

England is the first country witnessing the industrial revolution, which successfully made the country the most powerful and prosperous in the world in the 19^th century. The national education in England was rapidly accelerated by the industrial revolution. However, compared with the United States, France and Germany, the national education was obviously falling back to the development of economy. It is the industrial revolution itself and the other factors caused by it are the essential reasons to this phenomenon. The impacts to the development of National education by Industrial Revolution are both positive and negative, involving economy, politics and culture. The positive influences are the application of science and technology, the improvement of the quality of workers, the abundant material foundation, social moral promotion, the competitiveness awareness, the reformation of political system, the promotion of workers' social status, the change of cultural ideological concept and so on. All these factors concurrently pushed the development of national education and thus the elementary education system was established in 1870 consequently. The negative impacts are mainly the insufficiently appliance of science and technology, the restrictions in the early production models, the acceleration of competition, the rigid factory managerial system, the expansion of cities and the chauvinism as well, the lack of enterprise spirit, the superficial ideas on education from the middle and lower class, and the variations of thoughts and ideas and so on. These factors concurrently prevented and hindered the development of national education. The sound educational system was not established until 1944. this situation extremely restricted the continuous development of national economy and slowed down the British economic development, making UK surpassed by the United States, Germany, the Soviet Union and Japan. The hysteresis of education let UK be the second-rate country politically and militarily in the world. The analysis of the impacts to the development of National education by Industrial Revolution is of great realistic significance to the third-world countries in their process of industrialization. As for the development of Chinese national education, we should take a fully examination over it from industrialization and absorb the beneficial historical fruits, especially that from England, so as to formulate practical educational policy. Our research is conducted in the hope of exploring some possible solutions to the Chinese national education and attracting more and more people's attention so as to concurrently push forward the construction of our harmonious society.
