The Research Of The Serial Predicate Constructions In Modern Chinese

This thesis makes use of the calculator procedure to search modern Chineseserial predicate construction (SPC) in 114 China modern literature work, the timescope of the work is from 1917 until contemporary. We choose the representativework relatively at each period and got 1009 SPC corpus finally.We mainly use the Three-level Grammar (Three-dimensional Grammar)theories, based on a great deal of corpus, to analysis and research the syntaxstructure and semantic of SPC, to inquire the formation reason of SPC fromcognitive linguistics. The purpose is to get an overall reflection of the usagecircumstance of SPC, to approach the position and function of SPC in Chinese andto search the teaching methods of SPC in Teaching Chinese as a second language(TCFL).Thesis is total seven.Chapter one is overview, beginning from the SPC in ancient Chinese language,to find the development of the research of SPC, research of present condition andcontroversy problem from diachronic and synchronic.Chapter two is make a definition of SPC and establish the research range of thethesis. We think that SPC means the sentence is makes up of serial predicate phraseindependently or the serial predicate phrase is to be the predicate in a sentence. Theserial predicate phrase (SPP) is two or more than two predicate phrase use consecutively, including verb and verb phrase use consecutively or adjective andadjective phrase use consecutively. By meaning, the two parts illustrates a subjecttogether as a whole and their relation doesn't belong to any one of the five basicrelations in Chinese. Prepositional phrase and telescopic form phrase doesn't belongto SPP. We categorize SPC into two typesChapter three and chapter four make analysis of syntax structure and semanticsof SPC foundation on a great deal of corpus. Through statistics:The proportion of every variety of SPC in modern Chinese literatureIt shows that: the proportion of the general verb phrase use. consecutively hasaccount for more than a half and this kind of type is also a main type in ancientChinese, so we could guess this type is the basic type in SPC. We research thesequence of serial verbs in SPC by describing the syntax structure of SPC.Emphasized on analyze the semantic relations between the subject and thepredicate and the semantic relations inside the predicates. Chapter five is to inquiry the formation reason of SPC from outside languagethrough the theory of cognitive linguistics. The SPC is one with the principle oftemporal sequence as its structure rule and its members of various types are theresults of operations of their sequential relations at three metaphorical levels namely,the conceptual logical and cognitive levels.Chapter six is inquiries the relation between SPC and TCSL.
