Nominal adverbial is a especial grammatical phenomena in Modern Chinese. There is much research production on this issue. This dissertation aims to do a comprehensive study on nominal adverbial which comprises two patterns: marked and unmarked .Via comparing these two formats, we can find their relation and differences.Part One: foreword. This part mainly brings forward questions , curtly introduces the actuality and significance of this research.Part Two: structure analysis .This part mainly analyzes the syllabic characteristics of nouns used as adverbial,the compactness of nouns and verbs and the grammatical place of this structure .The structure also has restriction to nouns and verbs , not all verbs and nouns can be used in it. We compares the two categories in these aspects.Part Three: semantic analysis. The semantic roles and characters of nouns are deprainted in this part.The nouns in two categories vary in semantic roles.The semantic characters mainly compose three aspects :infirm space quality; strong property meaning; non-referent. Four means can help to protrude property meaning: adding"de";adding para-suffix; adding modifiers; juxtaposing nouns .Part Four: Pragmatic analysis and finding the reasons of this structure'existence. Not only in Ancient Chinese but also in other languages such as English and German, this language phenomenon still exists.The pragmatic function of the structure mainly consists of the following aspects: economy, visualization, aggrandizement, colloquial feature, highlighting the focus and so on.These functions decides the vitality and catholicness of this phenomena.
