Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation attempts to probe a new spoken English teaching pattern that by employing communicative approaches or communicative language teaching (CLT) in teaching spoken English for higher vocation majors accurate and fluent communicative competence can be cultivated and then the goal that what students have learnt in the authentic situations in interactive classrooms is in conformity with what they are going to use can be achieved. Based on combination, generalization and analysis of relevant literary reviews abroad and at home, and a questionnaire, the theory underlying this research comes into being, and spoken English teaching procedures suitable for higher vocation majors are designed, followed by an argumentation of strengths and weaknesses of CLT in real use. The findings are that CLT has straightforward framework, CLT is easy to handle, CLT emphasizes meaning and form as well, CLT encourages students acquire language in communication, and that CLT as a practical and effective approach is popular among students of higher vocation majors.
