Music composition is a kind of creative work directed by aesthetic experience, the work of embodying the composers' inner experience in sound form with the help of composing techniques. It is the most special mental activity of human artistic creation. Like other creative activities, it has its own psychological law. While composing, composers always follow a definite law to accomplish their work whether consciously or unconsciously.Debussy is a major representative of impressionistic music. He reinterprets the musical sound, harmony, and expressive force. And his work surpasses tradition in hearing and conception. His music work is of great historical significance, producing enormous impact in 20th century.There have been many studies on Debussy's piano music from the angle of music science centered on a technical analysis; few studies, however, from the angle of composition psychology. This paper, on the basis of Debussy's life experience and his piano music work, discusses some psychological elements dominating his work, and analyzes their positive effect in the process of composition.This paper can be divided into three parts:Part one: Perception, the precondition of Debussy's piano music compositionPart two: Thinking, the core of Debussy's piano music compositionPart three: Imagination, the ladder for the sublimation" of Debussy's piano music composition...
