Since 1980s, Chinese composers have created a large number of influential symphonies. They adopt various techniques in creation, but one thing in common is that they all inject their love and concern into traditional Chinese culture. One example is to use the method of singing on primitive ecology and drama and play as an element in a piece, then combine and mix modern music and the Chinese method of singing together, among which there are Sixth Symphony by Zhu Jian'er and Map by Tandun. In those pieces, the sounds of primitive ecology appear as a part, while in Tenth Symphony by Zhu Jian'er, chanting which is usually used in drama also appears as an important part. Those pieces develop into a complete symphony by combining the method of singing for traditional Chinese vocal music and western string music. Thus as national vocal music learners, we should reflect upon what kind of teaching can help keep the peculiarities of our national vocal music and meanwhile keep pace with the times and the advanced techniques. Also we should reflect upon how to adopt the multi-cultural music as widely as possible and how to contribute ourselves to the development of national vocal music. This paper employs the three pieces mentioned above as sample, tries to explore and analyze the problems from the perspectives of cognition, teaching and leading coverage by the media, and finally puts forward suggestions on what to inherit from national vocal music and how to develop it into a multi-cultural one.
