There are many essays on comparing the attributes in Chinese and English, which are based on the static translation. So such comparisons can't fully reveal the features of the attributes in the two languages. In this thesis, I try comparing the attributes in the two languages in view of both static comparison and dynamic comparison. To be different from the comparisons before, the static comparison in this thesis , based on the types of the attributes in Chinese and English , analyzes the similarities and the differences in the attributive structures in the two languages and uses the cognitive linguistic theories to explain the similarities and the differences. The dynamic comparison contains there parts. One is about the development of the attributive structures in children's language in the two languages, which can be divided into there stages: the beginning stage, the developing stage and the mature stage. Another is about the structure in the written language and the spoken language in the two languages. The third part is about the changes in the history of the attributive structures in Chinese and English. The results of the comparison in this thesis can help us understand the two languages better and provide some linguistic materials for the typology study of languages. Meanwhile we can also apply the researches to the English-Chinese translation or the Chinese-English translation, including the translation by machine as well as to the bilingual teaching, especially the oral language teaching.
