This thesis is based on two corpora, WECCL and ICE-GB. We firstly intend to find out the high frequency prepositional phrase parentheses in WECCL, used by Chinese English majors; and secondly we will find out these parentheses' frequencies in ICE-GB. We will analyze the differences between the frequencies in WECCL and in ICE-GB, in order to know the features of the frequencies in WECCL .Then this thesis analyzes the functional and pragmatic features of high frequency prepositional phrase parentheses used by Chinese English major. At last the error analysis will be done.This thesis has a study on the features of high frequency prepositional phrase parentheses by quantitative analysis based on corpora and FoxPro program, and qualitative analysis based on functional grammar and pragmatic dimensions, comparing with native speakers, this study also tries to find out what errors Chinese English majors often have when they use high frequency prepositional phrase parentheses. The findings and results of this thesis can give guidance to the English teaching and learning, help students to study prepositional phrase parentheses well, and avoid or correct the common errors.
