The thesis considers that Curse of the Golden Flower is a commercial film filled with Masculism as a whole. From this point of view, we are trying to analyze Spectacle and Narrative the film showed through the gender perspective in depth and across-the-board, thereby unscramble Masculism hiding in the film. The thesis also regards Curse of the Golden Flower as the sample of the popular culture, and anatomizes in detail to reveal the dominant effect of Masculism in the commercial films and in the audience taste.The part of Introduction introduces the actuality of the research of Curse of the Golden Flower, and the topic and innovation of this thesis. It also includes some defining of concept referred in the thesis.In Chapter one, we will pay more attention to the Spectacles in the film. That means we will analyze the film from picture elements, from which we will reveal the male perspective in the film and its Aesthetic connotation. We are also trying to reveal how the use of Spectacles satisfies the pleasure of"seen"and"been seen"through the process of watching the film, and the Masculism infiltrated in the pleasure.Chapter two is the analysis of gender narrative mode aimed to the Narrative in the film, which is based on the Theory of Psychoanalysis. The analysis expounds the narrative of"Phallocentrism"and structural relationship of typical Oedipus family in the film, and the mental self-identity mechanism of the audiences watching the film, which reveals that the essence of the film is masculism narrative.In Chapter three, we are trying to build our analysis on the fact that the film Curse of the Golden Flower filmized from the drama Thunder Storm. Through the comparison of the Curse of the Golden Flower and Thunder Storm, we will reveal that the film borrows the shell of the Thunder Storm, but its essence is totally different from the original work. The Curse of the Golden Flower Emphasizes and confirms the Patriarchal order, which is the regression of the spirit, and different from revolutionary and progressive meaning of Thunder Storm. We also find that the reason of this regression is the commercial attribute of the film itself.In the part of conclusion, we consider that Curse of the Golden Flower is not the isolated phenomenon, but a typical case. We can find out the male cultural essence of commercial films through the analysis of the Curse of the Golden Flower, and also find out the masculism thought in the popular culture, which has much practical significance in a certain extent.
