Kahlil Gibran's Literary Works And Painting

Kahlil Gibran is an outstanding writer and painter in 20^th century who was legalized by Occident and orient. Painting activities throughout his life, his identity as a painter influenced his literary creation deeply. Literary creation and painting made up of his art world together. For an artist as Gibran who have a dual status, to break the obstruct between literature language and painting language and study the relation between his literary works and his painting may be a new way to approach Gibran's spirit and to explain his literary and art work. This dissertation tries to probe into the combination between these two forms of art, and make up the blind spot in Chinese Gibran studies.This dissertation tries to analyze depend on literature theory, aesthetics theory, painting theory and artistic-psychology, refer to the clue of Gibran's thought and spirit to view Gibran's work and art as a whole world. Firstly, study the influence headspring and influence relation of the cross influence to Gibran's literature and paintin. Secondly, return the text and takes cross-study perspective, to read Gibran's literary work with literature language: image, symbol, structure and Gibran's painting with art language of painting: color, line, light. Finally, conclude and deduce on theory. The purpose of this article is to research deeply on the interior and exterior relationship of Gibran's literary work and painting, at the same time understand the abstruse implication in his works.This thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part I will study the alternately influences from several great masters to Gibran's literary work and painting, tries to find the external factor of their interaction. In the second part I will study art characteristic of painting in Gibran's literary work and literary characteristic in Gibran's painting, to reveal the intrinsic interaction function of them. In the third part I will conclude the relationship between Gibran's literary work and painting as intertextual relation and complementary relation, indicate the enlighten meaning of Gibran's intertextual principle between literature and painting to nowadays culture construction.
