The concept of Sino-Tibetan was presumed 2 centuries ago. During these years, scholars had proposed a large number of corresponding words between Chinese and Tibetan in order to prove their genetic relationship. But some of these corresponding words is not likely to be credible congnates. The list of Sino-Tibetan has been modified again and again. In this thesis, I discussed several suspect congnates, then I proposed some phonological and semantic rules on the comparison work between Chinese and Tibetan. In chapter 2, I proposed a rule called"center consonant corresponding"in order to escape the wrong correspondences between a prefix of a Tibetan word and a root of a Chinese word. I also added several evidences to reinforce the conclusion that the bottom graph"l"actually was a center consonant. In this chapter, I also discussed the relationship between the comparison work and phonology of different times. In chapter 3, I made some semantic rules on the comparison work. For example, (1)the Sino-Tibetan congnates must pass the test of the extended meaning system, (2)the Sino-Tibetan congnates must pass the test of Cognate Words respectively in Chinese and Tibetan. (3) make sure the meaning of corresponding items is the same or close. In chapter 4, I discussed the function of two linguistic methods: the semantical comparative method and the ranking curve determinate method.
