One of the topics that people often come across in popular belief studies is the interactive relationship between the state and the local society. This paper pays attention to the relationship of the state's ideology and the local idea in Mt. Wufeng area with the stele inscriptions, discusses different behaviors and attitudes of common people and the literati-official under the local belief, provides a few meaningful references to the popular belief studies in North China areas. This paper tries to find out how the state's power carried out in the local and how the state attained to the control to the local, and try to find out the peculiarity of popular belief in Shandong area though the examination to the popular belief of Mt. Wufeng area as well.The first chapter narrates the evolution of Mt. Wufeng area in history and its physical geography environment; the second chapter gives an account of changes in history of the Mt. Wu feng with the country presentation of state; the third chapter undertakes the local popular belief, concentrates on the'San Guan Da Di'and states the constituents and the changes of the local popular belief; the fourth chapter shows the interaction of the public and the local society though the different attitudes of the public and the local to local popular belief; the fifth chapter is the part of conclusion of this paper, it relates to the peculiarity of popular belief in Mt. Wufeng area and its significance to the popular belief studies of North China.
