In Chinese contemporary literary world, Liu Zhenyun's creation appears to be unparallel and unduplicated. His frequent changes of direction, his attempts in Film and Video, his typical irony and carnival, profound reflection as well as his seemingly understated cold humor demonstrate his distinctive style which is undeniable beyond such simple words as "neo-realism", "pioneer" and "neo-historicism".Liu's literary writing is still continuing. It seems that owning to his too huge and too many changes of direction, he is hard to follow. However, the innovation and diversity of the works cover up his inner consistency of his ideas which guide his writing. Actually, the core of his ideas is constant. This essay attempts to make deep analysis and conclusion to his ideas and to find the balance point between some over-statements and understatements about him and his works so as to give justified position and evaluation. The first chapter provides common knowledge, an overall analysis and conclusion of Liu's works, clarifying his transition process in his career life in time sequence to offer a dynamic and framed cognition. The second chapter raises the main point. By analyzing from two angles: the narrative methods and narrativelanguage ,the essay tries to emphasis the characteristics of Liu's novel——chaos andto explore the core of his writing ideas. The ultimate aim is to figure out the inner connection among text content, methods of expression and the writing ideas. Chapter three compares Liu with LuXun to probe deeply the origin of his writing ideas, meanwhile to figure out their significance and limits. This paper attempts not only to offer an overall grasp of Liu and his works but also to propose some new individual thought with the hope of arousing more thinking and reflection.
