With the coming of aging society and the problem of providing for the aged becoming more and more prominent, much more institutions for the aged have come into being. Furthermore, because of the characters in their physical body and mentality and social livings, the loneliness that the aged experience has its unique character compared with other groups with different ages.On the base of the previous study, the purpose of this study tries to explore and describe the structure and the characters of the loneliness that the aged living in institution has experienced. Furthermore, we focus on the aged that have experienced loneliness at higher levels, and manages to use group intervention to help them. The main conclusions are as follows:First, the structure of loneliness that the aged living in institution have experienced includes four dimensions. The four dimensions, arranged in descending order of importance are: existential loneliness, belonging loneliness, social loneliness and emotional loneliness.Second, There some differences on the core in the loneliness scale of the aged living in institutions because of the differences on sex, occupation career, marriage, how long she or he have stayed in the institution, income, education etc.Third, the intervention on the aged that have experienced loneliness in higher level is effective in the method of group counseling.It is difficult for this study because of its special object. But these studies enrich the content of geriatric psychology, and have its practicability.
