On Usage And Expressing Skill Of Light In Chinese Watercolor Painting

In the art of western painting,the expression and usage of light is playing an important role in visual sensation. For an artist, rational distribution of light while producing works of art is one of key elements taken into consideration first. Chinese watercolor painting attaches great importance to the expression and usage of light as an art originated from western painting. The expression and usage of light in Chinese watercolor painting has experienced a long process of development and improvement along with Chinese watercolor painting itself. Light has had great effect and worth in Chinese watercolor painting from the early stage when it was paid no attention or was simply used as the means of creating plastic effect to today. Light is connected closely to the vision of a man. One only can create a beautiful, concrete and sensitive image as well as own a basic sense of vision because of the existence of light. In this paper, through the analysis on several types of light forms such as back light,single focus light and strong light, conclusion has been made that light is playing an essential part in creation of an images or an atmosphere and composition of a picture in Chinese watercolor painting. At the same time, light has its unique aesthetic charm as an independent element of drawing.
