Orhan·Pamuk has become one of the three most important litterateurs in Europe since the republish of the 2006 Nobel Prize for Literature. His novel My Name Is Red, about Ottoman and Persian artists and their ways of seeing and portraying the non-Western world, was published in 1998 and won the French Prix Du Meilleur Livre Etranger, the Italian Grinzane Cavour (2002) and the International IMPAC Dublin literary Award (2003).This essay tries to analyze the novel from the aspects of structure character, culture, the reason of writing etc. by carefully reading the text and consulting the reviews before.My Name is Red is itself constructed around the individual perspective; each chapter offers the varying first-person truths experienced by the characters. Some of Pamuk's other narrators are non-human. They include a dog, a tree, a golden coin and even the color red.This novel named by"red", so this essay will analyze the meaning of red. Further more, it will analyze the symbolization of the novel.His novels are mostly theme on describing the collision of the East and the West. Therefore the essay will analyze it from the point of view of history, geography, descent, religion, the author's own experience.From the analysis of the above, we have got the thought that Pamuk did not just only describe the collision of the two worlds, he also intended to express his idea about it. He thought that there is no absolutely east or west and they can learn from each other.
