Orhan Pamuk, who has been one of the youngest winner in the past years, and also has got the reputation--- the smartest novelists in Asia, one of the three most important litterateurs in Europe, has been awarded the Nobel Prize of Literature by Sweden Royal College in the year of 2006, as in the quest for the melancholic soul of his native city (he) has discovered new symbols for the clash and interlacing of cultures.In his Award-winning Istanbul:Memories of a city, "the melancholic soul of his native city" was defined as " huzun"The essay proceeded with the Orhan Pamuk's test Istanbul: Memories of a city, analyzed Orhan Pamuk's views to Istanbul's melancholic.In the introduction of the essay, the status quo of research, the significance of the topic, the background of the times and historical present situation of the generation of "huzun" were introduced.In the foreword of the essay, The culture connotation and instantiation of "huzun" were elaborated. Orhan Pamuk insisted there was a kind of foreordination melancholic in Istanbul, which was the Istanbul's "huzun". There were some differences and connections among "huzun", general melancholic,the melancholic of turkey Moslem. In Orhan Pamuk's view, "huzun" was reflected in Istanbul people's life way, mental shackles and state of mind.In the second charpter, it mainly expounded Orhan Pamuk's viewpoint to Cultural reflection. In Orhan Pamuk's view, "huzun" was established both by the westerns and his own rulers. Westerns considered that Istanbul is a poor city with the melancholic soul. In the way of westernization pushed by its rulers, Istanbul people were deeply influenced by the comments which were given by the westerners according their memories about Istanbul, and can not help to extricate themselves. In Orhan Pamuk's view, it is the "hunzun" which cased the disappearances of objectivities and cultural identity among Istanbul people.Orhan Pamuk's culture attitude to "huzun"was concluded in the last charpter. In Orhan Pamuk's view, "huzun", Which is due to the inappropriate dispose to the relationship between Istanbul and western, and it's also due to the breakdown of its own entity, emergered in the times of cultural globalization. According to Orhan Pamuk's view, the confusions which is appeared in the meeting of different cultures can not be avoided. We should not miss in it, and bravely face the melancholic, the western, and rebuild our own subjectivity.
